Perth has plenty of pole studios, and from the outside they can look pretty similar. A few photos, a timetable, a booking button.
The difference shows up once you're in the room. Here's what to check before you hand over your money.
1. Who is teaching you?
Look at who founded the studio and who trains the instructors. Teaching quality flows from the top.
Polaris Studios was founded by Felix Cane, a multiple-time World Pole Champion and former Cirque du Soleil performer. Her approach to technique, safety and progression runs through every class we teach. Meet the Polaris team here.
2. Is there a clear beginner pathway?
You should know what you're learning, in what order, and how you'll know you're ready to level up. Random drop-in classes with no structure leave beginners stuck repeating the same moves.
At Polaris, complete beginners start in Beginner 1. Our pole courses run in 8-week blocks across Beginner 1, 2 and 3, with moves and choreography building as you progress.
3. What's the atmosphere like?
Some studios lean nightclub. Some lean competitive. Ours leans warm, welcoming and non-competitive. Check a studio's Instagram: are the people in the videos everyday women having fun, or only advanced performers? That tells you who the studio is built for.
4. How many students share each pole?
This one matters more than most people realise. When students share a pole, you spend half the class waiting your turn.
At Polaris, it's one student per pole, every class. Our smaller studio has 7 poles for 7 students, and our larger studio has 11 poles for 11 students. Small classes also mean more hands-on correction and safer spotting from your instructor.
5. Do they help you build strength and flexibility?
Pole is a strength sport. A good studio supports your progress with conditioning and stretch work, so you aren't relying on pole classes alone. Our Intro Offer includes 4 stretch and conditioning classes for this reason, and every membership includes pole, pole flow and flexibility classes.
6. Can you practise outside class?
Practice time is where skills stick. Polaris is a 24-hour studio, and your Intro Offer includes 4 weeks of 24-hour studio access so you can practise whenever suits you.
7. Can you actually get there?
The best studio is one you'll show up to. Check location, parking and class times against your real week. We're at 2/28 Frobisher Street, Osborne Park, with parking out front. Check our timetable for class times.
